CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

    1989D Lincoln Cent Distorted "U" In United and Possible DDO On Liberty

    Good morning everyone,

    I have been going through some more of my change and have come across several coins that are of interest to me. This one in particular I have looked at varietyvista.com and The Lincoln Center Resource page and have not seen anything quite like this. At first when I looked at the coin it looked like the "U" in United was distorted when I rotated it, but rotating it back it would go back to normal. I thought that it was an over press and caused the distortion. However, after I was able to fine tune my camera and get better details, it appears that there is actually a letter under the "U", I can not make it out despite my best efforts. Also, looking at Liberty there appears to be possible doubling, I am not sure though. Thank you for taking your time to look at these pictures, and I hope that everyone has a great day.
