1974 Kennedy Half Dollar
I was wondering if anyone could tell me if the "74" Kennedy Half was made with a different type of metal than the rest of the years. I have a "74" Kennedy which appears to be Gold throughout the whole coin. I can try and post it, but all I will be able to supply is a "Scan" image due to the fact I do not have a camera. Is it worth trying to post a picture? Thank you!Tags: None

Gold plated
I have a friend who told me that he plated all of his silver dollar coins to "preserve" them. I told him he probably ruined them as far as any numismatic value is concerned. He told me that he could remove the plating just as easily as he put it on and they would still be in the condition that he started with. I told him I thought he was wrong. Am I right or is he?

The addition and / or removal of any foreign substance to a coin is determental. The striping of plating from a coin dioes involve either a chemical or electrical procedure that will remove atoms from the surface of the coin, no matter how careful you are. So yes, it is a "bad" thing to do.
