    1974 Liberty Lobby

Hi, I’ve got a question, maybe a stupid one… is a 1974 Liberty Lobby a real coin minted by the US Mint? It doesn’t have a value or a mint mark and I can’t find anything on it from PCGS so I assume it’s not something they grade? Do these have any value aside from the silver they’re made of? I’ve attached a photo for reference. Many thanks!!

Hey now, no question is stupid. If one has a question please ask it.. well if it is remotely related to coins on this website. A question answered is a reward of knowledge. One can become quite wise by asking questions and solving issues.

In my opinion, this may be a propaganda piece for a movement group that was around from 1958 to near 2001. Wikipedia has more info here:

Its early in the morning before my cup o' brew, and I am struggling to come up with a name for this. It looks like an "I owe you" type piece, so its not an official US coin. It may not qualify for a medal or commemorative BUT, may qualify as a Token. Its the first one I have seen of this type, but i dont collect tokens.

The size of this throws me off. I THINK this coin is an "IOU", but, it coould be an ounce of silver already. Does is thing weigh between 30 and 32 grams ? If its the average size of a quarter, its probably not 30 to 32 grams. It has to be slightly bigger than the size of a Morgan or Peace Dollar to be close to an ounce of silver (30 to 32 grams).

I will download the photos and see if one of my friends has seen one of these. He collects tokens, but mostly from 1700 thru 1800's.

    Hopefully, more info to follow.

From what I researched online, its a one ounce round of silver from the group Liberty Lobby. So, its value might be close to what an ounce of silver is worth. I usually look up precious metal values at https://kitco.com

You can use your favorite web search engine to see what the average asking price is for these. Then, logically think how much this silver round is going to cost to get encapsulated/ slabbed and graded.

If you are considering sending it in, you may want to email the TPG ( third party grading service) to see if they recognize (accept this item) this for slabbing before sending it in.

Its always best to look at value of the coin vs cost of getting the item slabbed. It can be a costly habit. Return on investment is the key, unless the item isnt about value and more about protection and keeping it in the family. Its all up to you.
