1882 Gold Half Eagle and 30 Morgan Dollars and maybe 10 Peace Dollars how to grade?

Good morning. So I live in Upstate New York (the "true" Upstate), and a friend of mine asked me for some help with an Estate that he was given by an older gentleman who passed away recently. There were a pile of classic cars, antique tools, tons of "Currier and Ives" transferware and jars upon jars of pennies under his bed.

Apparently the other day, someone robbed the house of all the pennies, most I was told were wheat pennies. That really brouht my friend's spirit down. But ironically enough, he sat on the bad after finding the pennies gone, head hung low, and he told me he saw a garbage bag under the dresser. So he reached own and pulled it up and as he did, he realized it was heavy and it definitely sounded like coins. Opens up the bag and to his surprise he discovers all these Morgan Dollars, Peace Dollars and 1 Gold Half Eagle. Pretty much all in mint condition, at least fir the age anyway.

So to my reason for this post, I want to help him do what his older friend would have wanted. I think his best option is to get them graded and sell some of the Morgan dollars to help offset the grading costs and to also help with the clean-up of the estate. What would be the best route to take to get these graded and sold? I appreciate any ideas and all input. I want to help my friend anyway I can and I think this is the best route.

Thank you for any help. Pictures are posted below. These are just 3 coins. He has many more. image000000(1).jpg image000000(2).jpg image000001.jpg image000001(1).jpg

Coneca forum rules frown on grading raw coins on this forum. Search for ANA grading standards, you should see a link for money.org

It will give you a ballpark grade.

    Then, head over to numismedia.com

Then you can determine whether the return on investment is worth sending them in to a third party to get graded.

It will provide a fair market value for each coin. Some may be worth grading, some not so much. Its vital to know where the mint mark is on these coins.

Some of the Morgans can be pricey, even at lower grades, especially the higher year Carson City (CC) mintmarks.

The decision to get them graded is up to the owner, they have to assume all risk, cost and time to get these done. It is best to research the third party grading services to see which ones appeal to the owner and associated costs. The only one which does not require a membership is ANACS.

ANACS does set up at a few shows and they may be able to assist in filling paperwork at a show. Its best to do as much paperwork in advance as possible.

If you have over 100 of the same type coin you might be able to get reduced encapsulation fees, but its best to call the TPG and talk to a manager in order to come up with an agreed bulk cost. Make sure you all understand the total cost per coin and the return shipping cost as well.
