In my opinion, with this coin being well circulated, its difficult to know when all of this happened. This is what I see. IF the L in LIBERTY is raised, the L was sheared away by something. Note the distance from the rim. Its about the same distance away from the rim for the E in WE and the last T in TRUST.
I personally dont have uch faith in the missing letters to be struck through something like grease. To me, it just does not have that blotchy look.
What is interesting is that raised line going through QU in QUARTER. To me, that appears to be a die crack or die break. It appears to start on the rim, and heads toward the pointed bust of Washington. I will look closer to see if the crack goes any further.
I have not looked on the website, cuds on coins to see if this is one crack thats been found and documented.
Die cracks typically happen, closer towards the end of the service life of that working die. Quarters typically average 325,000 strikes or so per working die. Some last longer, some do not.

I tried to take a closer look using my tablet but the photo simply gets too blurry. In my signature block, i have a post of how to use a cell phone to capture good photos.
Right now, i cannot tell if that line on the L in LIBERTY is raised, or is it another bag mark or damage.
It would be good to have a photo of the full obverse and reverse of the coin.
It doesn't have to be too close, but have 95% coin and very little background is ideal. Having both sides of the coin helps to confirm or rule out certain things when assessing a coin.
