  • Alaskan quarter question

Found this quarter with unusual markings under the ear, and considering the post by ikew, are these caused by the same process. I originally thought it might be caused by clash dies? Any thoughts.

Without an overlay, I can't be sure if they're clash marks or some other form of die damage.

        Here's an overlay.

Looks like a clash to me. I'd say that is the outline of the fish body behind the ear and some inverted bear fur in the low point between the jaw and neck.

          Thanks

Thanks, looks like a case can be made for clash.

I found a nice AK die clash in my searches last night. Inverted 'bear fur' blankets the low spots under the ear and between the neck and jaw.

The clash shows on the reverse as well. There is a funny 'earlobe' shaped rise over the fishes back - and washington hair remnants under the fish and to the right of the bear's head.

              Same Clash

Your marking are much cleaner than the ones on mine. Freasher looking. The Die marks on mine had worn dwon some by the time mine were struck. Good pictures.
