1982 D Kennedy Half Question
Hello again. I have 3 Kennedy half dollars Uncirculated and all 3 have an indention on the side of the head. All 3 are identically marked. In the pictures, the lower right is the same but not as deep as the others. I have several other 1982 D's (Uncirculated) in front of me that do not have any resemblance to them as far as the indention goes. Plus I have several other years that have nothing like this. Can you tell me what this may be?

The Bronze Lincoln wheat cent (supposedly from used shell casings) weighs the exact same wheat as the normal copper cent; 3.1 grams.
As to the indent on the coin, it would relate to a high spot on the die. That could be some sort of debris that has stuck to the die and indented the coin with each strike.

I've seen many half dollars with this sort of indentation. It's caused by an accumulation of "grease". Grease tends to flow toward, and accumulate in, certain areas, which seem to correspond to areas of reduced effective striking pressure. Similar indentations occur on other denominations.Mike Diamond. Error coin writer and researcher.
