CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

CONECA was formed through a merger of CONE and NECA in early 1983. To learn more about the fascinating HISTORY OF THE ERROR HOBBY and THE HISTORY OF CONECA, we encourage you to visit us our main site Here

  • 2001-P Sacagawea High & Low Relief Dies?

I have a box of the Direct Ship 2001-P Sacagawea Dollars i am looking into.....one thing keeps popping out at me, and, I do not know if this warrants more research or not. There is a distinct variety with low-relief design, and, what I call "Mushy" details on reverse, the upper Eagle's wing, with "type I" shows no upper feather detail, or, if it does, it is very, very light..this reverse has a die marker...a large dot between the A & M of AMERICA..........."type II" coins show high-relief eagle feathers, with crisp extreme details in upper wing, chest, and, neck....NO dot die marker....hard to shoot, must see in hand...
Some may argue Early Die State vs. Middle Die State, vs. Late Die State, to explain "wear" on wing...sorry, I have examples of both, in all 3 stages.
Curious if this has been noted before, and, is of numismatic interest? First pic, in high contrast, shows "Normal" reverse...Type-II high relief....2nd shows Type-I, low relief...3rd shows dot marker.
    Thanks
    Cal
