  • 2009D DC Duke Ellingtong Commemorative Quarters Mint Processing

    Hello ALL again,

I have this colored commemorative qtr and want to get your confirmation...

The painting process aside, I assume this coin went thru the normal mint production materials and processess. And if the paint is stripped off,
it will look just the same as the rest of the business strike coins. And
further, may/may not find the same errors that the rest of production coins may have/have not.

    Thanks,
    NVTE

Your assumption is correct . I am not at all fond of "painting" the U. S. coinage; to me it is a ploy for extra money. However, some people do appreciate the "artistic" nature of these coins and hopefully realize that it does not increase the value of such. One must realize that the true coin collector does not trifle in such diversions that are accomplished outside the U. S. Mint.

I must concur with Wavysteps, it's the same as the gold plated quarters that sell for a premium howbeit the gold plating does little if at all to increase the value.
