CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

CONECA was formed through a merger of CONE and NECA in early 1983. To learn more about the fascinating HISTORY OF THE ERROR HOBBY and THE HISTORY OF CONECA, we encourage you to visit us our main site Here

  • Where do you draw the line

So where do you draw the line? In reference to collecting coins which have high wear, are they worth saving at all. Check out this 19449 cent and this RPM D, are they worth saving, collecting and attribution?

As always your opinion is greatly valued.

My feelings on what to keep and what not to keep may differ from the next person's view on this subject.

If the variety or error on a coin is not clearly identifiable (none of "it could be this or that"), then it is not a keeper. If I have to guess or wish that the coin has a probably doubled die or RPM, then the person that I am showing the coin to has probably the same feelings.

Many of the wheat cents now in circulation are to damaged to authenticate a minor doubled die or RPM. However, many people do not realize this and still conduct extensive searches of "unsearched" wheat cent rolls to find the "big" one. While it may be fun for some people to do this, one must remember that the variety or error found will be either a VF or below graded coin and command very little premium.

If you are into searching rolls, then find the uncirculated ones or close to it. The variety and error coins found in those rolls will be keepers.

      Thanks,

I do like to search rolls, but most are in less than fine condition. I think i'm keeping to many now. Will try your standards.
