CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

CONECA was formed through a merger of CONE and NECA in early 1983. To learn more about the fascinating HISTORY OF THE ERROR HOBBY and THE HISTORY OF CONECA, we encourage you to visit us our main site Here

  • bronze, gold or copper plating

Is this coin bronze, gold, or copper plating? Both sides are the same color, even the side edges.

It is hard to tell without a comparison cent next to the one that you have pictured.

      bronze, copper or gold comparison

Trying to see if the middle coin is bronze, copper or gold. I have used two other coins for comparison. Hope this helps.

          Bronze coin?

Thanks for the info on the 1981. What about the color on the other, what do you think? Were there bronze 1981 pennies or gold ones?

The only consideration for the coin pictured that I can offer is that it is possibly plated and used in ceremony. I have run across a number of these Lincoln cents (one at the FUN show) in both gold and silver and have heard that they are part of the Mason's initiation (????).

hard to say from photos, but the surface looks a tad matte making me think it was plated or painted, maybe as BJ suggests, for some event. I do not think it is a Mint error.
