CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

    Found a gem...

    I acquired a 1987p nickel on clad stock last month. Seems to be one of 6 or so out there. Anybody know much about it? I am a rookie at error coins and sort of "happened" upon it. Any input is appreciated.

        The forum takes some time to respond, but generally the answers are good. I'm not quite sure what information you're looking for about this coin. If there's 6 known off-metal nickels for 1987, I don't think that makes it any more valuable, as there aren't very many made each year. As for value, I might not be able to even ballpark it, so I'd check auction listings. Definitely a nice error. I would say that slabbing is 100% worth it since most error collectors can determine the authenticity of genuine errors easily.

          I got it back from the NGC, found two that have sold online. None on eBay. The link is to one Weinberg sold. Copper center and the odd metal makes it look broad struck. I need to figure out how to get a good picture on here.
