CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

1924 S RPM? OMM?

    1924 S RPM? OMM?

    I recently found a 1924 S Mercury that looks to be either a RPM or an OMM. I have tried to attach a couple of pictures. Is it or not?

    To be honest with you, the condition of the coin is in too lower a grade to make a finally determination of what you have. Since there is no listing for either a RPM or OMM for the 1924-S Flying Liberty dime in the CONECA master files, I would more than likely attribute the mintmark as machine doubling or die deterioration doubling.

      I agree, and would think it is from the mint mark getting hammered down during circulation. They distort with circulation as they roll around in change purses or pockets.

        I am talking about the Area to the west of the gap between the bottom curves of the s, not the upper part!

          The lower part of the S mintmark is even more worn than the upper part, so it is impossible to make an sort of determination of what that extraneous mark is.
