CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

CONECA was formed through a merger of CONE and NECA in early 1983. To learn more about the fascinating HISTORY OF THE ERROR HOBBY and THE HISTORY OF CONECA, we encourage you to visit us our main site Here

  • Civil War Tokens

I have a number of Civil War Tokens and I would like to find a site that deals with these Partiotic tokens. What I am more interested in are tokens that have die sets that are not listed in the "Red Book" of United States tokens and Medals. It would also be nice if I could find realalistic values of these tokens.

I have one token in particular (1863 Eagle on Shield (0198do) that has die cracks at the date and the obverse is in the same position as modern coins (fliping the coin vertically shows the reverse in an upright position rather than an upsidedown position normally foound on Civil War Tokens). The eagle on shield shows an Indian Head obverse, but my coin shows an olive? leaf wreath with "not one cent" and L. Roloff within the wreath.

    Any information would be appreciated.

While there are some sites that do reference some material on Patriotic and Store card tokens of the Civil War, I also find that I cannot obtain the information that I needed as well. My interest is in the Broas Pie Baker tokens.

Photos of Chanley Providence R.I. Civil War Token

Here are photos of the particular CWT I have. The die set is RI-700C-3j which is a mixed die set. The obverse is from the RI-700C-6a die set, the reverse is from the RI-700A-3J die set listed on page 84 of the official Red Book "A Guide Book of United States Tokens and Medals"

The obverse/reverse orientation is the same as modern coins in that flipping the coin vertically gives an upright reverse. I think this would be considered a 189 degree rotated die.(?)
