CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

CONECA was formed through a merger of CONE and NECA in early 1983. To learn more about the fascinating HISTORY OF THE ERROR HOBBY and THE HISTORY OF CONECA, we encourage you to visit us our main site Here

  • 1968 lincoln with anomoly on the reverse

Hello all, I have posted these pics of a 1968 lincoln cent with a "2" between the pillars on cointalk and they recommended I come here.
    Has anyone seen this before?

It is one of those things that I call a mimicker. First, we must ask ourselves where the supposed 2 digit came from? Since there are no 2 digits incorporated from any part of the design elements on the Lincoln cent or any other denomination, it cannot be a dropped design element. That would be a logical assumption if the date were 1962. However, since it is 1968, then a 2 digit is not involved. Without a source for this digit, one must assume that it is not a real representation of that digit, but something that is mimicking it.

Example; the 1980 D with S mintmark that was debunked.
