If this is to much reading just skip to photo’s. Thanks to all for any help with this... Frank
Background
I found a pocket change State Quarter and thought it was rare and valuable. With no knowledge of coins I tried to identify / valuate this quarter online. The only photo I found that looked like mine was on EBay. The seller claimed that quarter was missing the reverse clad layer. (Starting bid of +/- $100 with no bidders.)
Then I emailed photo's of the quarter to a few coin clubs and dealers. I received four replies, all stating the coin was definitely not an Error Coin. I was disappointed but had no problem excepting this because by then I had viewed many coins with a missing clad layer and none looked anything like mine or that EBay coin.
Later I read a post, referring to an 'EBay coin', that suggested others not follow such an example as that might hinder Error Coin interest. This I felt might well be connected to that EBay coin I viewed online. My thought was... wow!
Becoming even more interested in coins I continued reading and began to examine this quarter, and other coins, with a Radio Shack loop (5x, 10x, 30x). With better lighting I found a step-down in the quarter’s reeding depth, going toward the reverse, which could be concaved with striations running with the coin edge. I found other visual observations and will post if anyone is interested.
I also took some crude measurements using a caliber with 1/1000 inch graduations.
Again thank all for any help with this, Frank
