CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

    2005 Proof set finds.

    I purchased a 2005 proof set today and as I was looking it over I noticed the Mint Mark was strange, and the Nose on the papoose seems unusual. Photo’s attached. In the same set the top of the tall tree on Oregon’s seems to be floating in the air. Strange?
    As always I’d like your opinion.

    Revised wording.

    I purchased a 2005 proof set today and as I was looking it over I noticed the designer initials were strange, and the Nose on the papoose seems unusual on the Sacagawea dollar. Photo’s attached. In the same set the top of the tall tree on Oregon’s Quarter seems to be floating in the air. Strange?

      The SG & nose looks like hub doubling to me, but I am a rookie. I don't know what to make of the tree. Can't wait for a pro to come along.

        The top of the tree does appear to be floating in the air. This may have been caused by proof polishing, which at times eliminates small parts of a design element.

        The Sacagawea may very well be a doubled die, but then again, it could be machine doubling. I would send it to James Wiles for evaluation.
