Newbie questions
Okay, total newbie at coin collecting and forums, so keep that in mind. We recently inherited a bunch of coins and came across these two, and we were wondering if anyone could explain why the Lincoln looks this way and what might have happened to the 5 in the 1865 coin. Hopefully I can get the attachments to work. Thank for any help!Tags: None

The Lincoln cent was altered outside the Mint. The missing digit on the 2-cent piece is probably a "filled die" error. Such errors occur when gunk clogs the corresponding recess in the die face. Such errors are quite common and have minimal value.Originally posted by edjohn1818 View PostOkay, total newbie at coin collecting and forums, so keep that in mind.
