CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

1999 D Lincoln Penny Die Crack??

  • 1999 D Lincoln Penny Die Crack??

    I was looking through a roll of pennies and noticed 2 parallel lines running through the obverse of a 1999 Lincoln Penny. One line runs through his mouth and out of the corner of his lip. Are these die cracks???

    This is not a die crack. It is a linear plating blister where the copper plating has separated from the zinc core.

        Agreed.
        The plating blisters can run in a similar pattern with the underlying planchet striations as seen below.
