CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

CONECA was formed through a merger of CONE and NECA in early 1983. To learn more about the fascinating HISTORY OF THE ERROR HOBBY and THE HISTORY OF CONECA, we encourage you to visit us our main site Here

  • Localized Creep

The attached is a photo from a 1997 cent which exhibited a localized creep and extensive wear or polishing. The creep occurred over the area that covers STATES OF as the distance from the top of the letters to the rim is shorter than normal. Also the top of letters ST TES and F was reduced to a very narrow line which makes one wonder what happened to the missing parts? Were they removed to make the die to fit? Also the rest of letters were mostly gone. Is it because the die was worn down or it was polished down?

It appears to be struck through grease or a slight weakness in the strike in that area. Either way, it is a common part of the reverse to show this weakness.

    It s not design creep.
