It looks like it may be a "Grease filled die" It's missing "FIVE", its missing the end two letters in E PLURIBUS and the "MO" in MONITICELLO appear to be gone as well. Grease and die chips/metal flakes can fill up the letters and devices on the die, then, when it goes to strike a coin, the die cannot penetrate into the coin metal to show those letters. Since the war nickels were 35% silver, they seemed to have a lot of lamination issues as well. Some of that extra metal floating around clogged the letters.

Pretty neat looking. Congrats on a semi-uncommon find.

Yea that too but Im not going to guess what you think you’re seeing on the coin. I see a dark nickel. Be more specific

Yes it is a wartime nickel. You can tell by the placement of the large mintmark above the dome of Monticello. It contains 35% silver.
