 The date is filled with die chips. It was pretty common to see this in the 1950's and some of the 1960's.
 The mintmark was subjected to it as well.
 Occasionally you would get one that had a die chip in between the B and E in LIBERTY, and it looked like it says BIE.
 
 These were not terribly common, but most of the collectors did not pay much attention to them so there was not a good demand for them, meaning they were not sold for very much.
