Machine doubling. This what I do if I think I have found something while searching coins. First thing I do is look at Variety Vista and see if there any DDO or DDR's for your coin. If there has not been one discovered the chance of you finding a DDO or DDR is pretty slim. I learned the hard way and now I really just focus on known Mint errors. Here is the link to a few websites that really helped me out. Happy hunting

Its highly unlikely but very possible to find new varieties. Just yesterday i went through a roll of my favorite year, 54-S and found 8 doubled eyelids not listed anywhere along with a few listed RPMs. A minor thing but still, not listed. The sites listed in PNW comment are my go to sites as well. Its best to check several sites because some have listings that others dont. Once you learn about the process a coin goes through at the mint, you can check off most of the coins you have questions about.
#1. Learn about the minting process
#2. Learn about Machine Doubling, Die Deterioration and Doubled Dies
