CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

CONECA was formed through a merger of CONE and NECA in early 1983. To learn more about the fascinating HISTORY OF THE ERROR HOBBY and THE HISTORY OF CONECA, we encourage you to visit us our main site Here

  • Please HELP verify Double die Coin

Hey Everyone!! First time here also just been coin hunting for a month so very new. Can anyone verify if this coin is a double die please?
I assume the coin is a 2008 DDO RD 1C MS... Also do you think this is a MS condition..

    Thanks in advance

CONECA frowns on us giving grading information. In any event, I am not an ANA official grader. Plus, you only show one side of the coin, both sides would be needed to grade the coin.

In my opinion, this is not a doubled die. It looks more like the die damaged the coin breaking the copper later and exposing the zinc core. It could have been a zinc style bubble that burst in an unusual spot.

http://varietyvista.com does not list any doubled die obverses for the 2008 year.

Ahhhhhh.... I appreciate the insight. Its always good to hear back from experts. I'm wondering if this is classified as a collectors coin or is it just common

In my opinion, it is pretty common to see machine doubling. It's a form of damage, and people tend not to collect these.
