CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

CONECA was formed through a merger of CONE and NECA in early 1983. To learn more about the fascinating HISTORY OF THE ERROR HOBBY and THE HISTORY OF CONECA, we encourage you to visit us our main site Here

  • 1977 LMC Die Break?

1977 LMC Obv.jpg 1977 LMC Rev.jpg 1977 LMC Rev Close .jpg Good evening,
Please have a look at the"A" in states and let me know if this looks like a die break to you. Although there is quite a bit of damage in the area, I'm seeing what looks like raised spikes projecting southward from both legs. As always, your opinions mean a lot to me and I thank you in advance.

Looks sunk into the coin which would be post mint damage done outside the mint. Typically die breaks are raised on the coin and have a some what jagged appearance. The area to the southwest appears to be "V" shaped and more defined, but sunk into the coin. A few examples...

I think you are right Gary. I rotated the coin around a bit and played with the lighting and could see a pronounced groove this time. I'll have to chalk this one up to wishful thinking on my part.
I appreciate it Gary, thanks and have a good night!
