When I first looked at this LMC my first impression was a die clash on the reverse because there appeared to be a faint outline of Lincoln's bust. After research, I ran across reference to this error at https://www.error-ref.com/?s=die+subsidence , apparently a die subsidence error that affected 8 reverse dies for this year and mint.
While I'm fairly confident of this conclusion, when I looked at the obverse more questions arose. While die deterioration is obvious to a later die stage, (I always wish the coin was in better grade), the mint mark appeared to be an RPM resembling 1MM-001 on Coppercoins but not matching beause of it's position. After further inspection, I seem to detect a slight doubling on the date, Liberty and IGWT, (more wishful thinking perhaps), but I never trust my own judgement when there's die deterioration involved. Maybe stupid questions but, could the die subsidence error on the reverse have had an effect on the outcome of the obverse strike to the extent that the obverse appears slightly doubled? Or is this strictly die deterioration and MD or actual die doubling? I could only find two listings for DDOs for 1973 D online, and again, I question my judgement, there are similarities, but also mismatches in terms of die markers and mint mark positions.
Thank you in advance for your time and guidance!
