  • Production Error w/ Duplicate Serial Numbers

    Hello,
I realize this is mainly an arena for Coin Errors, Types, Varieties, and that’s my main reason for being here, to learn!!!
However, I also have an interest in a certain “Currency Error”, specifically the Series 2013, $1 denomination, FRB (Federal Reserve Bank) New York, Star Notes. Not all of them, only certain ones that the BEP (Bureau of Engraving & Printing), accidentally authorized it’s FW (Fort Worth) printing facility to print and distribute a set of notes that it had already authorized it’s DC (Washington D.C.) printing facility to print and distribute throughout the world.
Everyone knows, U.S. Currency has UNIQUE Serial Numbers for every note it produces. Now it’s ok for two notes to have the same serial number, as long as one of these three things are different, the Series, the Denomination, the FRB.
Here’s an example where it’s ok, they have the same Series (2013), but they are different denomination, and different FRB’s, so it’s ok.

But now look at this next example, this is NOT ok!!
Both notes are from the same Series, 2013, Both are the same denomination, $1, Both Notes are from the same FRB (B) New York, and Both have the exact same Serial Number including the Star!!! BIG TIME OOPPSS!!!
What makes this even more rare, and amazing, both these notes were distributed and sent out into the world years ago, then one was found, and then it’s exact match was found somewhere else in the world and the two were brought back together again.

Anyway’s, just thought I’d share another type of error!!
This one is so new, it hasn’t been published in any currency Error book yet, although word has it, that Dr. Frederick Barts upcoming 5th Edition of U.S. Currency Errors book will have a new section dedicated to this Error, “Production Error w/ Duplicate Serial Numbers”. It was thanks to a letter from Dr. Bart, that the Grading companies have finally started to properly attribute them as an Error, where at first, as you can see above PMG refused to call them an Error.
The above pair, was the first pair ever graded in the World, and they only listed it as “Duplicated Serial Number”, not as an error.
The Below Pair, was the first pair ever graded by PCGS, and it was the first pair ever graded with the proper attribution of “Production Error w/ Duplicate Serial Numbers”

Hope you enjoy this Error as much as I do.
    Have a great day!!
