CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

CONECA was formed through a merger of CONE and NECA in early 1983. To learn more about the fascinating HISTORY OF THE ERROR HOBBY and THE HISTORY OF CONECA, we encourage you to visit us our main site Here

  • FIRST POST - Bare with me, please. 2020 D Jefferson Nickel

I finally went all in to the coin biz and as so I purchased a micro-viewer to see closely. It attaches via USB but I have yet to get it to propagate to my screen so I ended up having to take a photo of the microview screen. I am still learning and therefore I am questing what another person I shared my photos with concluded as "machine-doubling" and only with the 5 cents it is. Do you agree with the assessment provided by on online source? If my post is out of line then please put me in my place. The Army had a way f making me conform many years ago.

    Thank you,

    Ronnie

So would this be considered DDO and DDR or because it is machine doubling its considered neither? I'm just trying to learn. Thank you.

        Worthless doubling is....
        Mechanical doubling
        Machine doubling
        Strike doubling
        Ejection doubling
        Slide doubling
        Push doubling
And many others. They are related to the actions caused by the machine. Doubled dies are exactly what it says. It is more than one impression on a working die, slightly off axis.

Here is a good area to learn....

Prior to 1996, Doubled dies had more than one impression onto a working die.

Neither. Gary has given you excellent food for thought in his post, learning tools given freely, I hope you use them. I did when he shared them with me. Thanks again Gary

Md happens during the strike. A true DDO or DDR has the doubling as part of the design on the die face. All coins struck by that die will have the exact same doubling.
