pretty good shot of the mm.
lets have some fun with it !
imo, the part you are looking at does have the rpm look, so you are on the right track but this is machine doubling. i use the generic term machine because false doubling comes from a few different events.
you can tell in this instance because that area that comes around the tip of the top serif is flat and "shelf-like", like it has been smooshed.if you have some toothpicks or rose thorns, you can GENTLY very very rub the mm area to remove some of the micro debris. good to practice on inexpensive coins as there will be some situations where someone may say "poke it with a stick" to see if it moves/falls off but can be used to help GENTLY to make dates/mm etc more easily visible.

not usually but for sure sometimes. the main reason for an rpm is that the first one didn't get a good even strike so a lot of rpm will have tilt, therefore only see one part of the mm and/or one part of the mm did seat where the first strike was but still have rotation/tilt, therefore only part will be visible. i've used small digit/letter punches and it ain't easy and the mint workers used ones MUCH smaller than the ones i did.Originally posted by SaintGeo54 View PostThank you! I thought the top part looked like machine doubling, I was thrown off by the bottom area because it looked different from the top.A straight edge compared to a more rounded, fuller edge. So would an actual RPM look more level with mint mark, like a double die ?
take a pen tip and hold it like you would a metal punch, which requires your hand to be in the way so you can hardly see the coin, put the tip on a coin, then act like you are holding a hammer, lemme tell ya, it is no surprise we have as many rpm as we do, except if they were as good as they thought they were, they'd just put em into the die like dates, legend letters etc but an argument for another day. lol - plus numismatics would be out most rpm then, how boring would that be. coins have human nature written all over them.coinfacts.com - conecaonline.info - board.conecaonline.org/forum/numismatic-site-links - briansvarietycoins.com - coppercoins.com - cuds-on-coins.com - doubleddie.com - error-ref.com - franklinlover.yolasite.com - ikegroup.info -lincolncentresource.com - maddieclashes.com - money.org - ngccoin.com/price-guide/world - ngccoin.com/census - ngccoin.com/resources/counterfeit-detection - nnp.wustl.edu - pcgs.com/pop - pcgs.com/coinfacts - pcgs.com/photograde - varietyvista.com - vamworld.com
