2021 Roosevelt Dime retained strike through??

    05-29-2023, 10:46 AM
Hi ! I found this 2021 Roosevelt dime, and it appears to have a large wire/thread next to Roosevelts head. Also, there are several dark, black or blue and red fibers on obverse and reverse. Just wondering if this is a retained strike through, what else could it be? Thanks for all replies!

In my opinion, I cannot tell what that black line is. It is kinda suspicious that it lies in the field only, without affecting any devices. The area behind Roosevelt's head almost looks like a lamination issue, but it's difficult to say via semi blurry photos.

It looks like the obverse of the coin had a decent strike, with everything intact and clear, then this condition happened. I am unsure what to say about about this one, except it looks odd. Typically wire strike through are not perfect and would effect anywhere on the working die/coin.

Try laying another die across the line on that coin, one on top another. I highly doubt this is a incomplete punch, since the reverse seems fine.

Once coins go into circulation, it's extremely difficult to assess what happened to a coin unless it show those classic error symptoms.
