  • 1922 S Peace Dollar Aberration

Was going thru some Peace dollars and found an aberration on the obverse, specifically most evident in the E R T Y of Liberty and associated spikes of the tiara. There is a slight oddity in the 19 of the date. I had to significantly reduce the overall of the front, sorry. 2MB limit. I found no references to any errors of this nature. Thoughts?

Some great directed reading folks. Appreciate it. Still not completely confident in the difference visually, but I guess in time I'll learn to recognize it more effectively. Thanks again.

it also helps to know a series. if you EVER find a legit peace dollar with doubling this strong that hasn't already been discovered, you have an absolute monster on your hands and doubling really isn't that strong throughout the legend with peace dollars, or morgans really.

The only crazy doubling I have seen (and own a handful of) is the 1878 8/7/4 TF VAM 38.
LIBERTY is doubled so strong,, it's the widest known of all Morgan VAMs.
its even doubled on the denticles.

The article I did is here.

ya, lib is pretty crazy on v38. nice page, info and images.

there are for sure a few other major ddo/ddr vams but they are very few and far between. a hot lips 88o v4 in unc is pretty crazy and like a lot of doubling, VERY confusing in it's seeming inconsistency. 34d peace v3 &4. same obv is pretty impressive.there are other big ones not coming to me. 78cc has a couple nice ddo but not too wide of separation.(you prob know about those too)

not to chase the rabbit but if you haven't seen the 76-cc $1 ddr trade dollar, it is worth a lookieloo. (you prob have already)

i'd say it is a contender for the widest ddo/ddr in all of numismatics. it just crushes the 55 ddo 1c even tho the 55 displays very nicely.

i would have to read up again to refresh my memory but that v38, is that all rehubbing or is the obv legit ddo? i'm pretty sure the rev is just from rehubbing.
