Odd Pattern on 1959 D Lincoln Penny
Still going thru my Dad's coins and encountered this odd patterned appearance on a 1958 D Lincoln penny. It only occurs on the obverse aspect. I've been thru about 700 Lincoln's and I have a bunch of 1958 D's as well; I haven't observed anything similar. Can anyone tell me what may have produced the effect observed? You do not have permission to view this gallery.

Yes, it's most likely post mint damage, something someone did after it left the mint. If those scribblings were raised, it might have been another story. If the coin was sent it to be authenticated and put into a slab ( at a hefty price) it very well may come back as genuine coin, but labeled as a details grade ( meaning something is wrong with it) and deemed as graffiti, making all that effort and money not worth it.Gary Kozera
