Good morning. I recently was going through my lincoln cents and checking all 1982s. I came across this bad boy and was wondering what you thought

Good question for google. Doing some research first lessens the burden on people who are willing to answer. There are plenty of answers out there. I personally like to help others who try to help themselves. There are plenty of questions each day in any forum. I don't try to discourage any one, but some effort should be attempted, in my opinion.

Coneca does not like us talking about value unless it is slabbed by a recognized third party grading service. Even then value is determined by two people, in an attempt to agree on a price. That can vary wildly. A ball park figure can be found at pcgs.com or ngccoin.com.

Same with grading questions, the leading attributor said no grading questions, for your reference....

Ok. I apologize. I was told this was the place to ask before I send them out. I was talking a gentleman, I believe it may even have been Wexler. He had referred me to this website to ask if it's worth sending coins to get appraised before I sent them out. Believe you me, I have been doing a lot of research. Every time I find something that looks like something on wexler or in the book, I get told it's not. It gets discouraging

hey Chad, hang in there when searching because the high degree of non Error/Varieties you will encounter can make things seem like a lost cause.
Coin collecting is part interest, excitement, accented with disappointment , there is the necessary "Suffering " we coin-a-holics endure and the excitement of discovery is what keeps us going.
As far as the question of "What should I be looking for with the 1982 penny is the "1982 D small date "Copper cent", Here are a few good articles on how to identify small date from LARGE DATE as well as what to look for.

Thanks. It definitely is a rush and very disheartening at times. So I do apologize when I get a little excited. I really do appreciate any help and guidance. If you have to lay it on me thick, please do.

The thing you have to remember is that the US Mint quality assurance got really good after 2003. They hardly let anything error wise out of the mint. They eliminated multiple squeeze dies which made most double dies. They added the mint mark to the master hubs, eliminating the RPM.

This means it's slim pickings out there. If I want something super dramatic and relatively recent, I will buy foriegn errors. India has some pretty exciting stuff. If you get it from a dealer that does not ask a lot for them, it will be worth the wait. Shipping can take close to a month some times.

Off metal or wrong planchet strikes from over seas, prices are decent. Very old coins with overdates exist, but there are people buying them up left and right.

I personally started out roll hunting, but I quickly realized that the time and effort was not worth it... for me. I bought a lot of Lincoln cent BU rolls with mint marks and pulled out e ery RPM and occasional doubled die. Our vision is changing, and we are getting more into Morgan silver dollars, so we will be posting a lot of Lincoln varieties up for sale in due time.

The coin hobby can be frustrating,, and disappointing at times.. it depends on how you want to approach the situation and change your luck.. it's about staying within budget,, but being able to ring that bell for finding a winner too..

My family and friends have kept change for years never returning it. So I am trading them dollar for dollar. And told them if I find anything in their coins they'll get a cut. Everyone wants in now. I am getting overwhelmed with people who want me to go through them. Lots of coins to go through. Lots of old untouched for years coins
