how to tell if a coin is a bank?
Hello all..I came across this "coin" awhile back, and i dont know how to tell if its a blank or a slug.. It weighs in slightly over 4 grams 4.04, so its a little heavy, and close to 20 cm, an 2cm thick and i think it may be a jewelry item? i cant take whole coin photos, but the edge isflat on one side and slight taper on the other side, i figured that was from stamping out the blank, but not sure. what does anyone here think. too heavy, to be a blank or?You do not have permission to view this gallery.

Numista.com is a web coin website that it's a ton of coins under the COINS link.
https://en.numista.com/catalogue/index.php?ct=coin
Coins are Made with hundreds of different sizes and weights. Problem is, proving that this was a planchet, or something else.tough to know via photos alone.
The only way to know what country it might have come from is narrowing it down by country or design. There is none, so it's either been sanded down, or is a type I blank without a rim. Either way, it's difficult to assess since it's simply a round piece of metal. We don't know the metal composition, nor a clue where it may have come from. Another conversational piece. Other than that, I got nothing to add.Last edited by MintErrors; 08-20-2023, 07:17 PM.Gary Kozera

Thank you, it is pretty hard to tell as you said what/where/when/if it was ever intended to be a coin. I do have a dime blank that the wife found at work, ill post it. I appreciate the time you take to reply with such a calm level headed answer, not rude, or coarse, but with a nod towards additional information and teaching me how to better understand what im dealing with or looking at a little better. Knowledge is power, and the more im informed and the stronger ill be in my assessment of what im looking at in hand or in photos
