Is this a wide AM 1999D cent?
This 1999D lincoln cent has a nice space between the A and M, but i'm not sure what/where to check markers, I thought it was the FG, but it doesnt look like either of my 98's or my 2000 wide AM. SO, I think my quest continues yet for a 1999 wide AM lincoln cent. You do not have permission to view this gallery.

One has to be careful with working dies that were getting old when the coin were struck. It is best to also know the position of the designer initials. A good reference is here :

I believe part of the serif is missing at the bottom of the "A," creating the appearance of a gap. I could take your picture and put it in a transparent layer over a close AM penny and then a wide AM penny and upload both pictures for you, if you'd like. That should clearly show which one it is.

SURE! if you have the skills or technology to do that, go for it. Ive been hoping there willbe an app that has a set photo sizer, so all submissions are the same size, angle to be crosschecked against known databases with a standardized form that gets printed out for attribution submissions, if the coin cannot be matched to any known in any database. Pronanly gave away a money maker, lol! An overlay would be sweet, please do if you can, would love to see an overlay, Thank You,

Here you go! I've had to do this sort of thing to answer my own "Could this be...?" questions, too. :-)
I found it interesting to observe that the wide AM seems to have been created with a thinner A rather than by simply moving the A over to the left. This is the first time I've seen them overlaid. You do not have permission to view this gallery.

It's a question for Lady_K_Seeker . I occasionally use a free software called paint dot net. It allows you to stack images. You an change the opacity, so one layer can blend into another. It's pretty easy and the software has some decent tutorials.Gary Kozera

Actually, your picture is the transparent overlay in each. The pictures of the close and wide varieties are solid underneath. And yes, as you can see, your picture matches up with the close AM variety rather than the wide AM variety. (Notice how the bottom of the "M" is the same in both cases, while the close AM is almost an exact match with the A and the wide AM is offset on the right side of the A.) You do have a close AM. Sorry it wasn't more exciting!Last edited by Lady_K_Seeker; 09-25-2023, 03:36 PM.

Thank you for that, the overlay etc..It just looked a little different than others I had looked at. I DO HAVE 2 of the 1998 wide AM's and a 2000 in my collection so far, I still need a 1999, so my quest continues! Thank you again for all your work in explaining the overlay, it is appreciated.
