I was just reading an abrasion doubling article the other day.

It wouldn’t happen to the die itself if the US Mint was sick of seeing wear continually in that hot spot area. So something raised isn’t what we would see. If someone aimed to purport doubling could be seen in relief after abrasion to a die after hubbing and it would still be called doubling, well, I don’t know.
