CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

1919 Wheat penny with rim damage

    1919 Wheat penny with rim damage

    Was going through my old wheaties and came across this odd looking 1919 with something going on with the rim. It obviously has been cleaned at some point and not 8n good shape but just wondering if anyone had thoughts, thanks.

    In my opinion, it looks like a magicians coin. It may have been two coins hollowed out and fitted together. The tell tale spot may be to the south side of the reverse, it might be an area that some one might be able to pry the two pieces apart. If you try to take it apart, do so at your own risk and cost. It alomost looks like it was in a fire. It's tough to say looking at just photos.

    If there is a coin shop or a coin show close to your location you may want a trustworthy person to look at this closer.

      Thanks Gary. I was thinking the same thing about it being 2 pieces being fitted together. I’ll try to get it checked out before I attempt to pry it apart
