I've seen this on other coins but not this severe. The striations run from the nose all the way to the hairline. There's more in front of the mouth and behind the head. Anyone know how this happens? Thanks for your input.

These are die scrapes, possibly inflicted by a mistimed feeder finger. They may also represent another form of accidental die abrasion. I've seen it on a few other dimes, but I don't think it was as severe. Nice find.Mike Diamond. Error coin writer and researcher.
