2006-D N Dakota State Quarter Obv/Rev Errors
While looking through some of my State Quarters, I found this 2006-D North Dakota Quarter which has Obv and Rev Die Errors. On the Obverse of the coin, you will notice a die crack almost all the way across the bottom of Washington's collar bone. Heavier to the right side of the coin but running almost to the left side. The nick at Washington's throat above the crack isn't anyway connected to the die crack. The Reverse error is noted as a "V gouge" which runs down underneath the left side of the D and the A, in DAKOTA, and forms a V enclosing the second 8 in 1889. I would assume this to have happened during the minting process, which stage I'm not sure, otherwise how would the letters be setting over the gouged area? Hopefully the pics will help clarify my descriptions. Thanks! FranTags: None

The "V" on the reverse appears to be a "struck through" a foriegn object error. It appears that something was on the die or the planchet when it was struck leaving that anomaly. As to what that object was, I do not have a clue.

yes most cracks i see especially in the 1/4's are lower bust, without seeing in hand i would almost say the V is a struck through grease. if it is it seems fairly common in the newer coins, nickel and upJimmy Ehrhart
