In my opinion, it's not an error, it's post mint damage. This is more than likely a vise job. Someone stacks some coins (say 5 to 10 coins) in a workshop vise. They when screw that vice down as hard as they can. Then they release the coins and throw them back into circulation and snicker.
Looking at the coin, you can see the impression of the Lincoln Memorial on just the highest areas of Lincoln himself, and it's incused or sunk into the coin. I will look to see if the design is backwards as well. A minting press would have no problem smashing the memorial building into the the obverse of the Lincoln cent. Plus, the minting machine has 2 dies, so why would the other side of your coin not have Lincoln on top of the Memorial building on the reverse ?
Some people have too much time on their hands.Last edited by MintErrors; 02-17-2024, 10:17 PM.Gary Kozera
