as a die clash it is not listed as a variety. our list does not cover clashes as there are many, many clashes in different strengths, locations, under different dates/mint marks, in different denoms. Maddieclashs.com lists them. Most die clashes on Presidential dollars leave an "extra ray" on the reverse crown.CONECA Attributer: John Miller

Yup found it. So a "Bugs Bunny" Franklin half dollar which is a smaller and less defined die clash gets a name but a larger and a more defined "8 Ray" Jefferson presidential die clash can't get a name? Where's the consistency is the obvious question?Originally posted by onecent1909 View Postas a die clash it is not listed as a variety. our list does not cover clashes as there are many, many clashes in different strengths, locations, under different dates/mint marks, in different denoms. in my opinion, Some one threw a name on the wall and it stuck. As John mentioned, there are literally hundreds of clash types out there and some are more appealing than others. I don't know the following of clashes, nor how many collectors actually pursue and collect them. Names typically aren't important - its the clash itself. I guess it would help if it was found by some well-known in the hobby but the clash name would have to be catchy and the clash dramatic. Then it has to be widely accepted by the community. The Ray's simply don't tickle most people. Consistency, isn't there because the majority interest is not there.

I agree. It may have a comical ingredient to it, also. Like "Bugs Bunny" teeth on Benjamins or the US Mint knowing the Statute Of Liberty has 7 rays on its crown but is minting Statute Of Libertys with 8 rays on it crown. I'm sure there are many other examples..Originally posted by MintErrors View Postin my opinion, Some one threw a name on the wall and it stuck. OK now I found a 2007P Jefferson dollar with the same clash as the 2007D Jefferson dollar die clash. Pretty cool with two different mint marks.
