CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

1976 no mm 25 cents has 5 eyes

IMG_013.JPG This 1976 Philadelphia 25 cents has at least 5 eyes on the obverse and 10 on the reverse and I think it has been struck at least twice . I think it was struck then rotated 20 decrees to the left and was struck again. there is what looks to me to be the bow on the pony tail in the field behind the neck close to the rim. Washington has 5 eyes on his face ,one on his forehead, one on the eyebrow, one where it should be, one just below that with another close to the nose just above the nostril. The drummer on the reverse has five sets at least. One on his forehead and the left eye is center of the nose another on the corner of the brow and center of nose another kind of where it should be with another on top of the last set and overlapped to the left and the left eye is on the bridge of the nose and another set below and to the right of that. In my opinion, It all looks like die abrasion and bag marks to me.

those are hits and damage... not eyes. there is no way in the minting process that you could ever have eyes in those locations. this is damaged.

then why are they the same I've never seen hits that are the same. Unless it was done by a machine, but why are they the same size and look just like the eye. I agree they should not be there and how come the drummer on the reverse has what looks to me as sets of eyes and they are the same distance apart and each set is the same . I see something like this going on on my Wisconsin state quarters as well but they are in Ms. I don't know I think maybe I'm seeing things . but on the state quarters the are raised lines that look like the images that are on them. I posted them in the general forum think may be it has to do withe the hubbing process possibly with this as well . Please go check them out. I would really just like some answers, I would really appreciate your input . thanks

Thanks onecent1909. I'm thinking they are as you say. After posting the above I was looking at some pennies and saw the same eye. I had to take a few days away from the coins . My mind was letting me see what I wanted to see.

This happens to all of us at one time or another. you see something and you want it to be something special... and it isn't.
