1926 Lincoln Cent Error?
The other day while looking through some wheat cents I found this coin. It has an indentation above the word "Liberty" and to the left of Lincoln's head. The reverse appears normal. Could it be some sort of planchet error? Or maybe some debris came between the planchet and the hammer die, causing this indentation? I would be happy to hear any thoughts on how this originated. Pictures are included.Tags: None

In my opinion, this coin is well circulated. It could have easily been damaged in circulation rather than coming from the mint that way.
If you look into that "pit" area, I would expect to see a lot more debris from normal circulation in it if it was done ages ago.
It probably would have had a deeper patina, almost the same color as the rest of the coin if it was done at the mint.
So, I'd call this one post mint damage (PMD).
IF this was uncirculated, it may have been a strike-through, but again it has been circulated and doesn't appear to me to be a mint style issue.Gary Kozera
