CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

CONECA was formed through a merger of CONE and NECA in early 1983. To learn more about the fascinating HISTORY OF THE ERROR HOBBY and THE HISTORY OF CONECA, we encourage you to visit us our main site Here

  • 1972 D Ike HITS?

I've always found this coin intriguing, in hand, the marks to the motto appear to be more than just hits and the B in LIBERTY (when wobbled appears to have split serifs). I would like to submit it for examination for possible variety attribution. At least it is posted in case another one similar is posted in the future.

In my opinion, it looks like reeding from another coin struck the one in the photo.

It also looks like the coin was struck by working dies which were suffering from die deterioration....plainly put, the working die was getting quite old.

Most doubled dies have more than a single letter or number doubled. It needs to be visible with a loupe near 10x magnification or an attributor may consider it a minor issue.

CONECA pre-screens all coins prior to them being sent in for attribution. You can add a post under the CONECA SERVICES area, under the attributions sub-forum. Add as much info in text and photos as you can. It's better to give them too much on the first pass to cut down on the wait time.

If you feel you have waited too long after putting a post in the CONECA SERVICES area, you can search for the member who goes by jamez ( yes with a z) in the members list and send him a private message by clicking on the black voice cloud by his name.

    Happy hunting.
