CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

1917-D Buffalo Nickel 5 Legged

    1917-D Buffalo Nickel 5 Legged

    I was going thru a coins from a recent auction and came across a 1917-D Buffalo Nickel that was miss identified as a 1917, as I was looking at the Mint Mark I noticed a few things. The Buffalo appears to have 5 legs and the reverse appears to be rotated about 20 degrees from normal.

    Obverse, note the cud ? next to the larger feather, is this is what is referred to as a 2 feather variety?
