CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

CONECA was formed through a merger of CONE and NECA in early 1983. To learn more about the fascinating HISTORY OF THE ERROR HOBBY and THE HISTORY OF CONECA, we encourage you to visit us our main site Here

  • 1982D sm date RPM/plate slpiting

I took 2 pictures of the same coin with 2 different cameras as you can see. Also I 'm sure were to post this one it's both an error and variety being a small date. This is a nice find of a small date Denver you can see an inner MM strike and doubling of the whole D and a split in plating below the D but this is a 3.11g copper planchet so there is no zinc plating on it so how did it seperate was it from ejection?
I was reading somewhere that the mint had a deformed MM punch that was leaving this in working dies is possibly the case here but then the left inside of the 8 wouldn't have the doubling correct?
