CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

CONECA was formed through a merger of CONE and NECA in early 1983. To learn more about the fascinating HISTORY OF THE ERROR HOBBY and THE HISTORY OF CONECA, we encourage you to visit us our main site Here

In my opinion, the condition shows a lot of damage around the rim. A lot of the copper plating is missing and some of the design appears to be flattened.

It's had a rough 3.5 years. It's heavily circulated and with that being said, I believe that this is all post mint damage, occurring after it left the mint.

I don't know if this was done in a vice, used as a tool, road rash or otherwise. It looks like the highlights of the beard have scratches that head in one direction. It looks like that pattern exists randomly in places near the rim. In some areas the rim has been crushed down. It's highly suspect in my opinion.

I won't be able to help much more with this one. If you want confirmation from a CONECA staff member, you could place a post under the CONECA SERVICES, under examinations. Attributions are for varieties like doubled dies, repunched mint marks, repuched dates, misplaced dates, over dates, over mintmarks and a few others.
