  • 1955D LC error - CUD?

Hi Guys. I'm unsure how to characterize this error. What would you call it? Is it trash? Thank you in advance.

die chips, nothing major but some people like them.

if you wanna be REAL thorough, you can check the date to see how well known it is for certain chips. most are gonna be common tho.

For your info, cuds usually involve the die chips or cracks involving the rim of the coin. I agree with OCC, the die chips are common. For coins like this, a few factors matter. One is condition of the coin. The other is the dramatic effect. This appears to be well circulated. IF it were uncirculated, it would have a better chance at fetching a small premium.

No I didn’t, but will. Did a google photo search. Didn’t appear to be a common issue with 55

HA! in my opinion, these are far from riches. My intent was not to mock, but to educate.

I haven't done that auction site in well over a dozen years. Let's just say it does not appeal to me.

I just wanted to prove a point that these were absolutely available from just about every year in the 50's and some of the 60's as well.

1960 is another year plagued with die cracks and strike throughs. No, I don't feel like going to the storage unit and pulling out rolls and proving that.

A while ago, I opened a bag of 60D large dates and pulled out over 50 strike throughs and looked at them, put them in what i thought was a decent order and got 20 of the better ones slabbed.

Hehehehe. I don't have any plans for the die cracks above, maybe chuck them in the bargain bins. My next show is Feb 2025, so we will see what happens.

These minor error types that include small clips, laminations, die chips, small strike throughs etc. are available in large supplies with little demand. I often get albums and albums of these offered to me for sale. There isn't much of a market for these at a premium price. These minor error types are readily found by roll searchers who collected these over several years and when it comes time to liquidate their collection, there isn't much interest.

I agree. In my opinion, at every show I attend I get some of the same activity.
In today's world of new fangled cheap microscopes. It will allows people to see what errors and varieties exist. The major problem i see now is over magnification. If most people would stay close to 20x or lower, the minor stuff would not be so exaggerated. I guess it's better for them to see it, rather than not see the issues.
