I have a few examples i can show you. But first, lets go through two of the most common types i have seen.

Capped die - can appear to be like a sewing thimble or bottle cap.
It may be deformed from original shape and size.
Portions of the rim area of the coin may have really high sides. This is because the coin capped the die. With each strike to other planchets, the rim walls can get a bit taller.

Struck through capped die - This one is not a true capped die.
It is a coin that was struck by a minting press that had a capped die.
They tend to have a ghostly appearance on one side, sort of like some one takes a very thin layer of tin foil and rubs an image of a coin on it.

In my opinion, Here is my thought. That can could have been affected by several things, all post mint damage related.

It could hace been exposed to a high heat. I THINK I see some possible gas bubbles towards the top of the coin as the photo sits.

This coin looks pitted. That can mean it was environmentally damaged, either by being in the ground or it could have been exposed to something with acid in it.

It could have been in a fire, the landed on the ground. Or a campfire. It could have had multiple eevents in a short period of time butvagain, outside of the mint.

A photo of both sides of the coin would be beneficial to determing the possibilites.

Thanks for the additional photo. Capped dies usually have one side of the coin with multiple impressions, while the other side looks blank from striking so many blank planchets.

The patina on both sides of the coin is missing as well. No mint luster what so ever.

It pretty much solidifies my opinion on this. It looks like PMD to me.

the reason(s) i asked instead of just answering or posting a pic is that i've seen you around here for a while now and the coin you posted literally looks exactly like several that have been posted over the years here which is clearly and obviously (sorry) PMD and looks like no die cap i've ever seen in 15-20 years of the hobby.

trust, if i didn't care about long-term members posting here, i wouldn't even take the time to say anything.
