CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

CONECA was formed through a merger of CONE and NECA in early 1983. To learn more about the fascinating HISTORY OF THE ERROR HOBBY and THE HISTORY OF CONECA, we encourage you to visit us our main site Here

Be ware of this coin for it may not be a true error. The 1825 halves were made of a composition of 89% silver and 11% copper. Since this was in the "ground", oxidation more than likely occurred and the surrounding chemicals in the soil may have played a part in what metal on the surface of the coin is seen.

If you think that it is a halve struck on a one cent planchet, a simple weight test should be done. The 1825 half should weigh 13.36 gr; if it weighs 10.89 gr than it MAY and I use this word with caution, be a half struck on a copper planchet.

All said and done, the coin should be throughly examined by an expert to evaluate its true nature.
